Sustainable Forestry Towards Net Zero

Forests play a significant role in the fight against climate change. They are both sources and sinks of carbon. Forests have an incredibly efficient carbon-storage mechanism enabled by the photosynthesis process. However, deforestation triggers the release of the trapped carbon in trees and soil back into the atmosphere, affecting local ecosystems in the process and potentially leading to adverse consequences, such as drought.

Given Malaysia’s vast expanse of forest, high-quality forest carbon credits can play an important role in driving global decarbonisation. Project developers can participate in the voluntary carbon market (VCM) by generating carbon credits through sustainable forestry practices and conservation efforts. Participation in carbon markets enables governments and organisations to support their efforts in conserving and enhancing forest carbon stocks. These activities should also ensure sustainable development in the region by meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

This 90-minute webinar is hosted by Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX) in collaboration with Control Union and Macquarie Bank Limited.
