Biocarbon Roundtable

Building on the momentum of last year’s Biogas Roundtable, Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX) successfully hosted a Biochar Roundtable with the ecosystem stakeholders on 22 February 2024. The roundtable was organised to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the biochar ecosystem, with the aim of facilitating biochar carbon projects in Malaysia.

The session brought together a diverse group of industry stakeholders, including government agencies, academia, association bodies, industry players from the palm oil and construction sector, standard provider, project developers, verifying and validation bodies and consultants. Guest speakers spoke on methodologies and the development of biochar projects in the VCM, and showcased recent developments with biochar-based and biochar-producing products and technology.

The discussions were fruitful as stakeholders exchanged valuable insights on the opportunities, challenges faced, and lessons learned from the local biochar ecosystem and sought to understand how the voluntary carbon market (VCM) can help address some of these challenges.

BCX would like to thank all our speakers Amran Salleh from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Russ Cullinane from South Pole, Win Sim Tan from Verra, Eric Bava from Verde Resources Inc., Tridansh B.
